Primary and Secondary Education

Do you know how many of your pupils are disabled? How many disabled members of staff work in your schools?

To be able to tackle disability equality you need to know the answers to these important questions. The new Disability Equality Duty offers a real opportunity for the primary and secondary education sector to tackle education inequalities.

The Disability Equality Duty (DED) is an essential new tool for promoting disability equality within the primary and secondary education sector.

Under the new duty all those covered by the DED must produce a Disability Equality Scheme. To find out when you must do this by, and for more information on the DED see your relevant area below.

More information on education and the DED can also be found on the further and higher education page, or see the main DRC education pages for details on more general issues surrounding education and disability.
